💧 Nam Khan 2 and Nam Khan 3 Hydropower Plants Strengthen Wet-Season Water Management, Prioritizing Safety and Transparent Information Sharing
According to the notice from the Meteorology Department dated August 21, 2026, rainfall is occurring across many areas, with some localities experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall for consecutive periods. This can cause water volumes in rivers and reservoirs to change rapidly.
In response to these conditions, EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL-Gen) places high priority on closely monitoring and managing water at the Nam Khan 2 (NK2) and Nam Khan 3 (NK3) hydropower plants.
Operations are based on hydrological and weather information to ensure careful and safe management.
📊 Spillway Discharge Situation on August 21, 2026
According to the daily operational report, the spillway discharge (Qs) at NK2 and NK3 was as follows:
🔹 Nam Khan 2 (NK2)
* The discharge rate was approximately 252.34 m³/s for most of the period.
* At 08:00, the discharge rate was approximately 218.15 m³/s.
* 4 spillway gates were open (Gates 1–4).
* Each gate was opened to 0.20 meters.
🔹 Nam Khan 3 (NK3)
* The average discharge rate was 478.97 m³/s.
* At 08:00, the discharge rate was approximately 263.09 m³/s.
* 3 spillway gates were open (Gates 1–3).
* Each gate was opened to 0.20 meters.
These figures reflect the continuous adjustment of water management at each hydropower plant based on current water conditions and hydrological information.
🌧️ Monitoring Rainfall and Weather Forecasts
According to the daily weather forecast issued on August 21, 2026, from 07:00–12:00, a low-pressure area continued to affect northern and central areas, together with the southwest monsoon covering most areas.
These conditions may result in:
☁️ Rain and thunderstorms in many areas
🌧️ Heavy rainfall in some localities
💨 Strong winds at times
People should also remain alert to consecutive days of moderate to heavy rainfall, which may increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in some areas.
🛡️ Safety Is the Top Priority
Water management at NK2 and NK3 during the rainy season does not depend on a single factor. Instead, EDL-Gen continuously monitors and analyzes multiple sources of information, including:
* Inflow volumes
* Reservoir water levels
* Rainfall amounts
* Weather forecasts
* River flow conditions
* The water discharge capacity of the system
This process aims to ensure that water management is carried out carefully and in accordance with actual conditions.
🤝 Transparent Information Sharing — Let’s Monitor the Situation Together
EDL-Gen places great importance on continuously sharing information about hydropower plant conditions and water levels with the public. People are encouraged to follow updates from official information sources and avoid sharing unverified information or news without reliable references.
Accurate and timely information will help communities and relevant sectors prepare for and respond appropriately to rainy-season conditions.
EDL-Gen urges everyone to stay alert — follow official updates, monitor water conditions, and follow guidance from the relevant authorities.
💙 Public safety is EDL-Gen’s highest priority.
