On May 28, 2026, at Xeset 1-2 Hydropower Plant in Lao Ngam District, Saravan Province. EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL-Gen) organized the “Tree Planting and Fish Releasing Activity for the year 2026” in celebration of the upcoming 102nd International Children’s Day and the 46th National Arbor Day, June 1, 2026
The ceremony was honored by the presence of Dr. Daovong Phonekeo, Chairman of the Saravan party central committee member and secretary of the Saravan provincial party committee, together with representatives from provincial authorities, government departments, local administrations, Electricité du Laos (EDL) Salavan Provincial Branch, distinguished guests, and EDL-Gen leadership attended the event.
Mr. Souksavart Sosouphanh, Managing Director of EDL-Gen, stated that environmental and social responsibility is one of the company’s key missions. EDL-Gen has continuously prioritized environmental protection alongside electricity generation to promote sustainable development.
Over the past 10 years (2015–2025), EDL-Gen has organized annual tree planting and fish releasing activities at hydropower plants under its management.
During this period, the company planted more than 72,000 trees and released over 451,830 fish into natural water sources to restore ecosystems, expand green areas, and conserve biodiversity alongside power generation activities.
For the 2026 activity, 400 trees were planted near the area of sport field of the Xeset 1-2 Hydropower Plants. The planted species included hardwood trees, native species, and fruit trees.
In addition, 20,000 local small fish fingerlings were released into the protected area of the Xeset River downstream of the powerhouse to help restore the aquatic ecosystem and maintain the richness of natural water resources.
This activity not only reflects EDL-Gen’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, but also helps raise public awareness, especially among children and younger generations, about the importance of environmental conservation for sustainable development in the future.
