From June 8-12, 2026, at the Lao Electricity Training Center building, EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL-Gen) organized a training course on the topic “The Use of HEC-ResSim Software for Reservoir Flood Management of EDL-Gen Hydropower Plants.”
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Siliphom Sengonkeo, Deputy Managing Director for Generation Division of EDL-Gen, Participants included two representatives from each hydropower plant with a reservoir, eight representatives from the GHC and Dam Safety departments, and representatives from the Electricité du Laos Institute.
The training was delivered by trainers from Win Consultant Engineering Co., Ltd. Its objective was to enhance employees’ knowledge and skills in using the HEC-ResSim program for reservoir simulation and management, enabling more accurate, modern, and effective hydropower reservoir operations.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Siliphom stated that reservoir flood management and reservoir water-level control are important missions in hydropower plant operations. In the context of climate change, rainfall and water flows have become increasingly variable. Therefore, the use of modern technology and software is essential to support planning, scenario simulation, and decision-making in water management for maximum effectiveness.
He also emphasized that HEC-ResSim is a tool widely used internationally for simulating and controlling reservoir operations. The use of this software will help EDL-Gen reduce water loss through spillways, improve water storage efficiency, support flood control during the rainy season, ensure energy supply during the dry season, and promote stable and sustainable electricity generation.
This training also aims to develop personnel capacity in using data simulation to analyze and identify suitable parameters for electricity generation, while also strengthening dam safety work and water resource management in line with international standards.
The training reflects EDL-Gen’s commitment to applying innovation and modern technology in hydropower plant management to enhance electricity generation efficiency, ensure community safety, and promote sustainable hydropower development
