On August 24, 2026, the overall water management and unit operation of Nam Khan 2 (NK2) and Nam Khan 3 (NK3) Hydropower Plants remained normal, stable, and safe. The reservoir water levels at both plants remained within the controlled operating range, and there was no need to discharge water through the spillways.
💧 Water Discharge Status
The spillway gates at both hydropower plants were fully closed at 100%, as follows:
- Nam Khan 2 (NK2): All 4 spillway gates were closed at 0.00 meters, with no discharge through the spillway, or Qs = 0.00 m³/s.
- Nam Khan 3 (NK3): All 3 spillway gates were closed at 0.00 meters, with no discharge through the spillway, or Qs = 0.00 m³/s.
The closed spillway gates indicate that the reservoir conditions at both plants remained within a manageable range, with no need to release excess water through the spillway gates.
🌊 Reservoir Water Levels
For NK2, the upstream reservoir water level was approximately 474.26–474.36 meters above sea level (masl). This remained below the Full Supply Level (FSL) of 475.00 masl and the warning level of 475.23 masl.
For NK3, the reservoir water level was approximately 344.69–344.91 masl, which remained well below the FSL of 348.00 masl and the warning level of 348.50 masl.
Therefore, the water levels at both NK2 and NK3 remained within the controlled operating range and were considered stable.
⚡ Power Generation and Efficient Water Utilization
Under clear weather conditions with no rainfall, water management at both hydropower plants focused on conserving and maximizing the efficient use of available water by releasing water through the turbines for electricity generation rather than through the spillways.
- NK2: Power generation was approximately 90–95 MW.
- NK3: Power generation was approximately 50.51–55.49 MW.
This operating approach reflects prudent water management by controlling reservoir levels, conserving stored water, and utilizing available water appropriately for electricity generation.
🛡️ Summary
The operational status of NK2 and NK3 on August 24, 2026 remained normal and safe. The spillway gates at both hydropower plants were fully closed, reservoir water levels remained below both the FSL and warning levels, and water released through the turbines continued to be utilized for electricity generation.
Nevertheless, EDL-Gen continues to place strong emphasis on safety and will closely monitor weather conditions, rainfall, and reservoir water levels around the clock.
All relevant stakeholders are encouraged to continue monitoring official information regularly in order to receive accurate and timely updates.
Prudent water management combined with efficient electricity generation — for stable, safe, and sustainable power generation.
💙 Public safety is EDL-Gen’s highest priority.
