One of Social and Environmental Performances

EDL-Generation Public Company or EDL-Gen, one of the leading public companies in Lao PDR who responsible in providing electricity to Electricite Du Laos (EDL) and attend to be shareholder in independent power producers or IPPs—to provide electricity internal demand and exporting. Together with energy section development, EDL-Gen prioritizes corporate social responsibility and environment—prosperous conservative environment and biolodiversity. Moreover, the company has hosted activities with local people surrounding HPPs such as planting tree and releasing fishes, contributing some medical equipment to local hospital & health center, donating clothes and supporting on education especially for schools around HPPs every year—Particularly, in 2019, EDL-Gen has spent for 3.18 billion kip on its works.

In 2020, there are some activities and projects are planned, and there are two projects, those are second priority of conservation board, which will be undertaken. Projects will be financial supported by Conservational Reservoir, Environment and developing community Fund of EDL-Gen. By funding in concession agreement on 24th July 2013, prescription by EDL-Gen and government—preserved by Business Department of Ministry of Energy and Mines. First project is road repairing from Nammung 3 HPP to Vanghuea Village, Thoulakhom district, Vientiane province, the project has been accomplished. Second project is rebuilding Selabam village primary school and building electric mesh, 0.4kV and 22 kV, and installing three phases of 50 kVA electric transformers, Xanasomboun District, Champasak province. By utilize EDL-Gen’s funding from the mentioned agreement.
In the end of 2019, Southern of Laos has effected by flood. Also, Selabam village Primary School has been effected by the mention disaster. EDL-Gen corporates with local authority to arrange funding to rebuild a new school. The project progress has been continued until early of June 2020—about 15% completed; estimate to be accomplished in the end of November 2020. The project has been based far from Selabam HPP about two kilometers. The building is one level structure with five functional rooms, cost about 889 million kip—supported by EDL-Gen. Beside that, EDL-Gen has funded the cost of 244 million kip for building electric mesh, 0.4kV and 22 kV, and installing three phases of 50 kVA electric transformers to provide electric for new Selabam village primary school and Selabam’s housing estate. These two projects cost about 1,133 million kip (one billion one hundred thirty-three million kip)

After accomplish mentioned project, it will be supporting educational performance of country same as province, district, developing step by step. Prioritize the children, who will become future of the nation, to guarantee for quality of education. Moreover, the routine of local village surrounded HPPs will grow and have a better daily life—together with prosperous developing the basic infrustructure.
