“The Water level Condition of Nam Ngum 1 reservoir”
The level of water in Nam Ngum reservoir increase again following rainfalls through northern and central parts of the country, additional with heavy rain through south-west parts of the country since the 3rd September 2018 until now and it is forecasts that it will until the 9th September 2018 according to the Weather. Additionally, the crease of water level in Nam Ngum reservoir is due to massive of water released from Nam Ngum-2 Hydropower Plant, plus other dams located along Nam Ngum reservoir area e.g. Nam Lik 1-2 HPP, Nam Phai HPP.
Starting from 22:00 of the 4th September 2018, in order to protect Nam Ngum-1 HPP it is necessary to open spillway gates of Nam Ngum-1 HPP up, from 4,3 meters to 4,5 meters. By 08:00 AM of the 5th September 2018 the water flows 1,652.6 cubic meters per second through the spillway and 547.1 cubic meters per second through the turbines. The total is 2,200 cubic meter per second.
Therefore, the flood covers wide areas of Thoulakhom, Xaythany and Pak Ngum districts by the water coming from Nam Lik river and other sources.
In order to prepare, Nam Ngum-1 HPP had announced to local people, solders, police officers, government officials, who live in lower places along Nam Ngum riverside to relocate their belongings as well as livestock in safe and higher places to avoid flooding and closely follow announcement from Nam Ngum-1 HPP.
