The National Institute of Fine Arts of Laos, Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism in collaboration with EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL-Gen) organized a handle ceremony for a drawing contest on the topic of “Sustainable Power for the Nation” at the Institute on 20 June 2017.
Attending this ceremony were Dr. Maising Chanboutdee, Director of Director of institute, Mr. Thongphet Douangngeune, Deputy Managing Director, CBDO of EDL-Gen, Ms. Souksanh Phongphila, Assisting Managing Director of EDL-Gen and other invited guests.
The activity began from 21 April until 20 June 2017, there are more than 40 students participated in this contest and there were separated into three rounds. The judges selected 12 students from 47 contestants. Then, the selected students spent 3-4 days for study visit to EDL-Gen’s hydropower plants in order to gain knowledge and skill as well as the doing the research in the real place for the drawing inspiration.
Mr. Kikham Keovongkod, who is second year student of the institute, major in Arts won the first prize, receiving 5 million kip. The total prizes for this competition were more than 35 million kip. Therefore, this is the first activity, in which EDL-Gen and National Institute of Fine Arts organized to open up the opportunity for the students to emphasis how important of the hydropower plants development and the operation along with environment and natural protection as well as the supporting the community around the dams. On the other hand, the contestants could be able to encourage the people in the society understand more about electricity generation through the story on the drawing. All the drawing will be displayed at EDL-Gen hydropower plants as well as showing at various events domestically and internationally.
