The strategic planing and business development plan from 2011 – 2020, stipulated as the following main items:

  1. To plan and operate the businesses effectively in order to make the liquidity and business operations of EDL getting better step by step.
  2. To protect the right and benefit of shareholders as the first priority and at the highest level.
  3. To plan to increase the install capacity of generation of EDL-Gen from 387 MW in 2011 up to 2,238 MW in 2020 by mobilizing the capital to invest in the dams that are managed by EDL and joint venture by EDL, herein includes the operating and under constructing dams.
  4. To improve management system of EDL-Gen for raeching the international standard level step by step.

From 2011 – 2020, EDL-Gen expects to increase the install capacity of generation to 2,238 MW (From 387 MW in 2010) by using capital from the shares issuing and revenue from the generation in 2011 as the initial point, herein may increase funding by the capital mobilizing:

EDL-Gen’s expects to increase the install capacity of the generation into 3 periods below:

In 2011 – 2012 the capacity of the generation will expect to increase from the existing install capacity 387 MW to 757 MW; in 2013 – 2015  from 757 MW to 1,498 MW, and  in 2015 – 2020 from 1,498 MW  to 2,238 MW.

In 2015, EDL-Gen has completed the transfer of 3 projects, which is 100% invested by EDL, namely: Namsana (14 MW), Namkhan 2 (130 MW), Huay Lamphan Gnai (88 MW). Moreover, EDL-Gen had completed the purchase of share in IPP owner by EDL, Nam Ngum 5 (installed capacity of 120 MW) as a 15% share of the project or equal to 18 MW.

EDL-Gen planned to invest other targeted projects, in which EDL has invested itself and under construction namely: Nam Hinboun (30MW), Namkhan 3 (60 MW), Xeset 3 (23 MW) and Nam Jien (104 MW).

Additionally EDL-Gen targeted to expand installed capacity of its hydropower plants including, Selabam from current 5 MW to 13 MW, Xeset 2 from 76 to 86 MW, Nam Ngum 1 from 155 MW to 275 MW (with additional three units. Each unit has installed capacity of 40 MW).

EDL-Gen also aimed to purchase shares and invest in other IPPs, in which EDL holds the shares. The plan can be summarized as follows: Nam Ngiep 2 Project (installed capacity of 180 MW) as a 10% share of the project or equal to 18 MW, Nam Ou 2 Project (installed capacity of 120 MW) as a 15% share of the project or equal to 18 MW, Nam Ou 5 Project (installed capacity of 240 MW) as a 15% share of the project or equal to 36 MW, Nam Ou 6 Project (installed capacity of 180 MW) as a 15% share of the project or equal to 27 MW, Nam Long Project (installed capacity of 5 MW) as a 20% share of the project or equal to 1 MW, Nam Ngiep Project (installed capacity of 180 MW) as a 10% share of the project or equal to 18 MW, Nam beng Project (installed capacity of 34 MW) as a 20% share of the project or equal to 7.2 MW, Nam Mang 1 Project (installed capacity of 64 MW) as a 10% share of the project or equal to 6.4 MW, Nam Tha 1 Project (installed capacity of 168 MW) as a 20% share of the project or equal to 25.2 MW, Nam Lik 1 Project (installed capacity of 60 MW) as a 10% share of the project or equal to 6 MW and Xekaman 3 Project (installed capacity of 250 MW) as a 15% share of the project or equal to 37.5 MW.

EDL-Gen also planned to invest individually in projects and join projects with IPPs. The projects are namely: Lower Huay Lamphan Project (installed capacity of 15 MW) as a 60% share of the project or equal to 9 MW, Nam Bi 1, 2, 3 Project (installed capacity of 130 MW) as a 80% share of the project or equal to 104 MW, Nam Kalabai 1, 2, 3 Project (installed capacity of 39 MW) as a 80% share of the project or equal to 31 MW, Nam Phoun Project (installed capacity of 45 MW) as a 51% share of the project or equal to 22.95 MW, Nam Thern 1 Project (installed capacity of 650 MW) as a 15% share of the project or equal to 97.5 MW and Solar Farm Project (installed capacity of 32 MW) as a 60% share of the project or equal to 19.2 MW.

Apart from investment on energy resouce, EDL-Gen provided services on the operation management of hydropower plants, maintenances of equipment under water by diving team, canteen renting service and others.
